What is Islam & Who is Muslim
June 9, 2022

Islamically there is no sect that you must create or call your self by, in fact the Qur’an (manual of life) states clearly “I have given you the Deen (system) of your forefather Ibrahim AS and named you Muslim in this scripture and the books prior to this” (22:78)

In Surah Anam Allah the Almighty says to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH (6:159) “As for those people who divide the Deen into sects, have nothing to do with them, their affair is with me alone and I shall tell them what they used to do”

In short there is no room for creating or subscribing to sects in Islam and anyone who does this needs to know it is haraam, we should as Muslims unite under the banner of Islam and not stand for anyone who tries to divide us.

Allah SWT further says in Surah Ahle Imran (3:103) says “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah and do not be divided. Remember Allah’s favour upon you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts, so you—by His grace—became brothers. And you were at the brink of a fiery pit and He saved you from it. This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you, so that you may be ˹rightly˺ guided.”

If we true to Allah SWT and to the Deen of the Almighty then ask yourself “what was the sect of nabi SAW” which sect did the sahaba follow, you will get the answer insh Allah.

Following a school of thought in duress prudence matters (Fiqh) is not following a sect, but what we do ask people to do is study the school of thought they claim to follow before deciding unequivocally that they are a followers of a particular school of thought, we also ask Muslims to study more than one and make an informed choice of what and why they believe a certain methodology on a certain permissible act.
